I don't know if this has been posted already, apologies if it has and feel free to delete thread if I'm just duplicating info, "Christmas will be alive with the sound of music with ITV airing a live production of the much-cherished 1965 Rodgers and Hammerstein stage musical, which is set in 1938 Austria. Kara Tointon will play the iconic nun turned nanny Maria, a role made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1965 film adaptation, for this two-and-a-half-hour production, which will be the first musical to be broadcast live on national television. The Sound of Music Live! will also feature Tointon's Mr Selfridge co-star Katherine Kelly as the Baroness Elsa Schraeder, Alexander Armstrong as the jovial music promoter Max Detweiler and Downton Abbey alumnus Julian Ovenden as Captain von Trapp." Quote from the link below. linkInterestingly, Julian Ovenden who appeared in Downton Abbey as Charles Blake, will be Captain Von Trapp.

Nope, not a duplicate! Sounds like the UK (I'm assuming it's the UK, right?) is doing their own live TV production of TSOM just how NBC did 2 years ago.
I don't think it'll be aired in North America. If it pops up on YouTube, could you share the link with us? Thanks!

No, there are others, but I can't remember who. There is a thread if you read further down in the General section called Getting to know you, geography edition that was started about where everyone are from. Go check it out, it's pretty interesting.

I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I'm most excited for Alexander Armstrong as Max in this. I would never have made that connection, but on consideration I love love love the idea.
