"Christmas will be alive with the sound of music with ITV airing a live production of the much-cherished 1965 Rodgers and Hammerstein stage musical, which is set in 1938 Austria.
Kara Tointon will play the iconic nun turned nanny Maria, a role made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1965 film adaptation, for this two-and-a-half-hour production, which will be the first musical to be broadcast live on national television.
The Sound of Music Live! will also feature Tointon's Mr Selfridge co-star Katherine Kelly as the Baroness Elsa Schraeder, Alexander Armstrong as the jovial music promoter Max Detweiler and Downton Abbey alumnus Julian Ovenden as Captain von Trapp."

Interestingly, Julian Ovenden who appeared in Downton Abbey as Charles Blake, will be Captain Von Trapp.
