I love this picture. It could be a "real" one, taken of Georg and Maria inthe gardens of the villa in the early days of their marriage. If they do not escape right away after the honeymoon, that is.

yes. or maybe during their engagement. (do you think she kept wearing the Laendler dress? I'd like to think so).

i was thinking engagement also. something about the way they are very close together but have their hands cleverly occupied and to themselves. maybe they just got caught making out. hmmmm...

This photo has always fascinated me; they seem happy together, almost excited. And their right legs and feet...are touching; same with their shoulders. I can't see how that would happen unless...something was happening? (if you know what I mean -the same magic can be seen in the orangey photo of the two of them in the gazebo that Anne has used at the top of the boards). I have my suspicions.

Like they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Something that always confuses me about these photos is when the costumes don't match up (like the photo of Peggy Wood in her habit at the filming of the festival). When would this have been? He only wears a suit at dinner and in the gazebo scene. And this is her Laendler dress (repeating myself here). They definitely were buddies. And in his memoir, he says, well, he had to stay away from her because she was with her baby daughter. That's a kind of, well, limited reason.

me to <3. Read the book, if you must. They have it at my library, but I bought a copy for a dollar and will happily lend it out. Be prepared to disapprove.

O yes, engagement period is maybe a better idea for this photo. I thought of marriage because I'm not sure they would have had enough courage to sit so very close together before. It's just exuding togetherness.
As for the book: I've bought it, read only parts of it, mostly those chapters around TSOM, by curiosity. A bit too much verbose for my taste but contains interesting bits of information.

I think she keeps the Laendler dress for special (private) occasions, if you catch my drift.
This photo, to me at least, speaks volumes about how close they became.

This is the one I've been looking for. It could absolutely be an 'engagement' photo. There is just something about it--they don't look stiff and posed, but very relaxed together.

Yes, I love making backstories up for these pix, and the idea of her retrieving the Laendler dress and being in his arms for good is just so . . . sweet, like lemacd says.

No, Honey, I was going to keep it for an appropriate post that popped up here...or maybe a cheeky caption some day!
(Cheeky Captain?) - he does look a bit that way; how I wish he would be cheeky to me!

Yeah, me too. She looks unguarded and he looks sexy, yes, but also quite happy.

They certainly 'fit' together so well, and I adore how she's just sort of melting back into him. {sigh}

It is the only shot I have seen where he looks REALLY happy - almost like he has forgotten he is meant to be dark and mysterious!

I came back to this because yesterday, Fiona was watching a science-y show about social interactions and body language (yeah, she's a science geek). In one part they were discussing how one behaves when attracted to the person they are with; the leaning in, etc. and how you can tell a first-date couple from a platonic duo from a couple in a long-term relationship.
The first picture at the top exhibits all of the things they mentioned on how to spot attraction---the leaning in, the contact of non-sexual body parts, etc. When I was listening that picture immediately came to mind. And all of the more recent pictures of them are typical of the longer-term indicators they talked about (comfort within the others' space, speech patterns, finishing sentences, etc. So, way more to these two than just our imaginations/fantasies!

Anybody noticed how it is the inner (medial) aspect of her R leg that is touching his? Definitely NOT something that happens by chance!

Wow, what a science-y bunch!! How can I dispute a theory that includes the word "medial?"

I was thinking of submitting this to what I call the "closet" test. When I was writing the scene in WG where he comes to sits next to her in the dark, I wanted to see if you would be aware of someone moving closer to you in pitch-darkness. I made certain other people who live in my house go into a large walk in closet with me (the only place that I could make completely dark) to experiment. I am thinking of trying to replicate that photo and seeing what it feels like. You know, because I'm science-y too.
