there is no M & G kissing other than the gazebo. none. it's all silhouetted and during singing. not fair, not fair, not fair.
liesl and *gag* rolf have as much kissing in this movie. well, not really but i think my point is made.
would it have been too much for him to kiss her again? like at the altar??? we're not children!
wow. i need to check my medication.

I could do with a full-on wedding night scene, but what that would do to the ratings.... LOL Yes, a kiss at the altar would have been delightful.

if there was a wedding night scene in the actual movie, the TSOM fanfic forum over at FF.net would implode.

Like everyone, I would have loved to see more of the wedding, honeymoon, etc (although at some point, all that detail might rob the film of some of its magic - our imaginations can do a very nice job filling in the blanks, as good fanfics demonstrate). Do people even kiss in Catholic weddings in cathedrals in the 1930s? After all, he might do her some serious harm with that sword of his.
Well, anyway. Because we don't see much, one's imagination tends to tends to run wild. Like, there is something kind of tomboyish and charming about the way she throws her arms around his neck and kisses him after "something good" and before he asks her about marrying him. That moment made my honeymoon Maria slightly ... eager. And even though I like to think of him as a beast, I kind of like the way he kisses her cheek after he gets the telegram - it shows a depth of marital affection (not to disregard the possibility of anything else, you understand).

yeah, but... sigh. fine, no kissing in the church. not if it leads to impalement. and yes, i went there because you started it.
the gazebo kissing is great no matter how you look at it. but... but... oh, nevermind. you're probably right. but... maybe waiting for the children to return after the honeymoon? maria walks out of the house and sees her beast man shred that nazi flag and she doesn't want to jump him right there in the drive way?!
a kiss. all i wanted was a well lit kiss.

can't disagree with that. If they want us to believe that he is so wonderful and sexy, they could have given us a little more of that. (and they could have had her call him by name at least once, for heaven's sake). and lemacd? you started the thread. I was just fighting fire with fire. What do others think? More kissing? Um, where?

Well, here is another kissing thing. There's a bit of stage direction that drives me wild. In the gazebo. They kiss, they talk, she says "oh can this be happening to me?", and it looks they are going to kiss again and THEN she starts singing. Ugh. I guess she had to start somehow, but it makes him look kind of awkward, like he missed his opportunity. Maybe they should have let them kiss and THEN she could sing? And generally, I feel like it's kind of awkward for him, having to cast those meaningful looks at her while she warbles away. No wonder they had so much trouble keeping their composure.

Everywhere! When I think about it I really would have loved a scene of them telling the children. It would have been such a lovely contrast to their reaction when he'd told them he was to marry Elsa. Sending the children off and ending that with them embracing and smooching would be perfect.
I think I may have to write my first story...... :-)

i was serious about the flag moment, actually. not the jumping his bones thing, just maybe to calm him down, remind him they are in a good place to deal with it, etc. you know, some little interlude of sweetness.

I agree... more kisses... and would also love to see them kiss when they return home... hmm I haven't yet gotten around to write that part of my epilogue... My idea is for it to end with them returning home... Thanks for the idea

If they're on tumblr I'd have expected them to know better than to question the existence of Sound of Music honeymoon fanfics!

I am of the firm belief that the film neglected their relationship after the gazebo. I get that there were nazis to run from and stuff, but by the time they finally admit their love for each other, I have devoted two hours to them and it's over with and we move on after one maybe two decent kisses?! They could have given me a bit more. One more scene, that's all I'm asking. I am 100% onboard with more kissing.

I guess that is why I am so fond of all those stories that people write about the "in between" moments I have said it before and I will say it again--there should have been more kissing. Period. Its a balmy night, you've just left your life behind at the abbey and the man of your dreams is standing in front staring into you eyes, he's kissing on your jaw, your heart is pounding, he's told you he loves you, here's your big chance to grab that man by the lapels and make him forget his own name and.....You starting singing--letting down millions of women all over the globe. It's a lovely song but would it have killed them to throw in a few kisses before? Shut up and kiss him! Jeez! *Clearly I need more coffee this morning...Carry on!

Yes, I've been reduced to repeatedly watching the scene where he kisses her cheek just before they make plans to flee Austria. Pretty pathetic.

Yes, the singing at t hat moment is unbearably awkward. And he does a masterful job of trying to look all natural about it when it's a very unnatural moment. He does have that little raised eyebrow look a little later

What irritates me just as much as the lack of Captain vT/Maria alone moments is the fact that she never returns his "I love you!" & never calls him Georg. I could do without the singing in the gazebo too if I'm honest as well as Liesl & Rolf cavorting around the gazebo earlier in the film. Lol TSOM with a few minor tweaks could've been a perfect film. Someone build a time machine, sort it out & if you can somehow persuade Julie Andrews to, after filming, visit 2016 to marry me, all the better. Sounds like a good plan to me. Haha!

It's really funny because I just started thinking about this myself. I watched the Gazebo scene again the other night and as usual I was really hacked off that there was so little kissing involved but then I just happened to slow down the video and I think there's another moment that they kiss and we just don't see it. Its after he says he loves her, she says "can this be happening to me" and then he starts kissing her forehead but then the angle of their heads changes and I swear they are kissing right there and you know what, I think it's a proper one! Maybe I'm the only one that never noticed this but it goes really quickly and then she's singing to him! I'll try and do a short clip of it but for now, here are screencaps which I've lightened so the quality isn't great. That's it there folks... the angle of their heads!

No worries! I already like this one as well. That part of the song goes really well with the gazebo scene, I'm so glad you put this together, I replayed it 3 times the first time I saw it. Lol
