her uncertainty. His awesomeness (although I like his smirk in the next moment too). Like they both realize what they've gotten themselves into. Attachments:

The older I get the more I appreciate this scene in the movie. My mom used to always comment on how, for her, this scene was the most romantic one in the movie. I always thought - and still do - that the gazebo scene is the most romantic but I now understand what my Mom was talking about.
It also makes me giddy to hear Julie say that filming this scene was just as magical as it looks on-screen. Both Julie and Dee Dee Wood get a certain tone to their voice when talking about the dance.

I thought it looked like she remembered the dance "I haven't danced that since I was a little girl" but perhaps forgot the intimacy of the end of it, and that she's just .... remembered it.

Yes he was so caught up in the dance he forgot about the children then turns towards them and gives them a nod. I love that nod because I really see it as a fathers gesture.

Oooo, I still have on my list of things to write a story based on M and G dancing at Gretl's wedding (based on the gif from on golden pond in the thread spinning). I was going to get M and G to be reminiscing about their first dance together, ie talking about the Laendler. THIS IS GOLD! I love it!

Ok got it!good pick up... It is so slight!
I also love how he checks her out twice while he is doing the clapping thing as she twirls around him. (And I'm almost positive of a third time when he is clapping around he)
i also love love that almost through the whole dance she is trying so hard NOT to make eye contact with him, but each time she does, it is awesome (electric sparks going all over the place)

Ok, I'm still watching. Elsa line of "what a lovely couple you make" first hints of her trying to intimidate Maria or first warnings of M and G's relationship to Maria (like a prelude to her later conversation with Maria upstairs)?

The 'checking out' thing I just noticed this week. I love it! Wonder what he's thinking at that moment....

And I must say Brigitta's reaction 'chin drop' is perfect.

And that chemistry cannot be acted---there are precious few screen couples that have it---and this is one of the hottest. I love this whole thing, it is made up of so many lovely looks, movement, gestures. And I love the smirk in the moment after that photo, when it seems his whole body relaxes as she takes his hand---likes he's found home. Just melts me.

I love the little look of uncertainty that she gives him the moment the dance starts as he takes her hand and then a moment later, the smile that just says "ok, I'm enjoying this."

It's when he takes her hand. Right after the picture you posted I see the smirk but not the nod or wiggle or whatever you call it.

It is very subtle - I had to watch it 3 times to pick it up

Oh wait, I was looking at the wrong part. You mean right after the clapping part? Yes.
I think that the reason he smirks just after the picture I posted, is because if she forgot what was coming next, he knew.

yes, I love that.
This thread made me watch the Laendler like nine times this morning (like the way I'm blaming a thread for my behavior?). And I'm sorry to talk about me, me, me, but it made me think about how, in different stories I wrote, I may have gone AU, but I tried to make it all fit with the Laendler just the way it is in the film. I had fun this morning watching this dance having written the closet story, or even walled garden. They still dance but ... the context is different every time. The same goes for others' stories of course - sometimes you don't quite know if the Laendler would fit, but often it would still fit, it just looks different....am I making sense?
I'm in such a dreamy mood now! And the sun is out for the first time in what seems like months!!

Oooo, very delicious thinking about them dancing the Laendler after a fan fic story. It does look different depending on what certain fan fic story just happened prior. Now as I head back to bed, I'm going to be imagining a Laendler being danced just after either The closet or utility's latest fic (the dark and storm night one).
Too delicious for words!
Enjoy the sun! I'm glad it has finally come out (because it always does - lol)

I think after that Dark and Stormy Night, there might actually have been some kissin' at the end of that there dance.

There probably would have been kissing after the closet version too!! Sigh.....
So then the question would be... Would the Elsa/Maria interchange then have happened? And if so, would Maria have still been scared off by Elsa and run back to the Abbey?

I’m sure George went with Maria. Up to her room I mean. Maybe Elsa would find them in some kind of intimate position and then she can run away!
