Adding to this thread because I'm always so excited whenever I see anything about the Laendler! And that story about CP and his tights? Never fails to make me laugh. Anyways, here's a few photos I wanted to share because they are just adorable: I don't think they were preparing for the Laendler for this one (most likely Something Good) but as a few friends and I talked about -- there's Bob Wise, hand on forehead, overwhelmed by JA and CP's chemistry. They're just adorable, and it's impossible to not love them! And this! Such a cute Laendler blooper -- and I'm thoroughly obsessed.

Love these pics! I am interested in the top one, because it seems to be in the music rehearsal hall (there are similar pics showing the orchestra with Julie raising the roof). So it would fit with them practising the end bit of Something Good, when they stand in silhouette and embrace(?). You can imagine the hilarity! But the man with his hand to his forehead is Saul Chaplin, both Producer and Music Producer; Robt Wise may be behind Marc Breux (with his back to us - Choreographer).

I have destroyed this story multiple times, and I regret nothing.

I haven't gone back through this to read to see if it's been mentioned--and I assume it has been observed by everyone because I'm a stupid person--but I can't get over how we're seeing two different worlds colliding. Watching Maria entrenched with the children as the Captain just walks into their world from his own stuffier and upscale one, and for a moment everyone keeps on keeping on, not really seeing each other...until they do. We watch him coming from the party oblivious to what is happening on the terrace, and then placing himself in it so seamlessly.
And obviously how he checks her out whilst they're dancing, which I know has been mentioned multiple times. Dude/Captain, we see where your eyes are, not where they should be.
(Apologies for any typos, I spilled liquid on my external keyboard a couple days ago, so have to use the regular laptop keyboard until I get the replacement, this feels so uncomfortable.)

yes, love that mischievious look at his face as he pulls on his gloves, and her moment of hesitation before placing her hand in his (I love the way she zigzags back and forth between ebullient fun-loving grins and moments where she looks more overwhelmed and shy ...

I know they are both professional actors, etc, but it must have been quite something for Julie to have to kiss an actor so much more experienced than her, like CP. Yes OK, it IS CP! Maybe not so difficult!
But imagine being an ingenue like her, having to kiss in front of 3 other men much older than you...I would definitely get the (nervous) giggles!

I imagine acting in general is very vulnerable, but especially in a scene like this! Yes, she must have been nervous. Having people watch and critique you on something so personal seems very intimidating. Even more so if the people critiquing you are older men and you are a younger woman. Good thing her and CP both had the giggles about the whole thing so no one could take it too seriously.

How curious, I have always imagined the situation the other way around: from CP's comments about squeezing JA's hand in some scene, and in general, I think that by that moment and despite the cache that Plummer already had as an actor, he felt somehow way intimidated (in love?) by her. Like in the festival sequence, he leans on her (I'd say both CvT and CP). Not that he felt insecure or something, I don't mean that AT ALL... don't know how to explain but I've always imagined these roles like this, and how the two liked each other but had to control themselves.

Hi @indigoblue CP explains that squeezing thing in his biography, I'll quote: "Julie, sensing my nerves, took hold of my hand and held it throughout the session. It must have taken her days to recover the use of it afterwards, I had squeezed so hard. No matter how diligently Iād slugged away at my lessons, I was still untrained as a singer.ā (In Spite of Myself: A Memoir By Christopher Plummer)"
He is referring to the gazebo scene but anyway it fits for the Laender scene too what I meant about their acting experience :-) (not sure if this make sense out of my head)

I think, in their own ways, they were each intimidated by the other. Chris had never done a musical before, and this was only Julie's third film, so I'm sure she still felt like a novice (pun not intended).

Yes, exactly! Didn't knew this was 3rd film for JA, what a wonderful job she did, my respect to her! š

I don't even think the other two had been released yet, so she still felt like a newbie. missisa I loved that bit about his squeezing her hand, I'd forgotten but it is quite delicious.

I can't help but think that there must be tons of pics and bloopers about these moments that we are analyzing, hoping that some brave person will bring them to light someday. We should join forces and demand them to the FOX studio!

Alas, I think it was less common back in the day to document the making of a film, compared to what it's like now.

don't dynamite my hopes augiesannie šš anyway, I base myself on the number of photos from different angles of the same scene and the anecdote of the numerous shots š
