A question that puzzles me sometimes, is after the Balcony Scene, when Elsa says "I will pack my bags and return to Vienna, where I belong", does she go immediately, or wait until the morning? And how does she get back there?
Does she :
1. Request that Max immediately drives her all the way back? (at least a 3 hour journey, I should think, maybe more). He also appears later in the story, so he would have to come back.
2. Order a taxi? (All that way?)
3. Wait for her chauffeur to collect her (he'd have to come from Vienna, so that'd mean she would have to wait all morning at the villa for him to get there...and, as she knew what was probably Going On in the gazebo, it'd be excruciating trying to keep out of the way).
Your thoughts please!

I think she would leave immediately and perhaps stay at a hotel in Salzburg. A taxi, Max, or even Franz could take her there; then a train or have her own driver retrieve her the next day.

I thought about that, too. I also wonder how long Georg waits until he goes down to the Gazebo to Maria? It seems rather harsh - and Out of character, in my opinion - for him to beeline down to the Gazebo.
I feel a fanfic coming on....

Like you guys, I always thought that she would have left straight away and gone either to the train station or a hotel (probably driven by Max - I think I said that in my post-gazebo fic, I can't remember)....
As far as time for G to get to the gazebo. I think around 15 minutes or so. He wouldn't go straight away but also wouldn't let her hang there for a while.

don't you love the way @indigoblue asks about Elsa and we find a way to talk about Georg? So about Elsa ... great question! Clearly she would have gotten out of there quickly, although one does imagine that "packing my little bags" is not something that could be done quickly (unless she saw it coming? but no, she's talking about wedding gifts not five minutes before). She might still have been packing while M&G were canoodling in the gazebo! I think I also had Max driving her somewhere. And yes, it's awfully far to Vienna, but altering geography so he can get her there and back is hardly the worst damage we fiction writers have done to the story....

don't you love the way @indigoblue asks about Elsa and we find a way to talk about Georg? Isn't that the rule? All posts must lead back to Georg? It's Six Degrees of Separation: Sound of Music edition

No, that's the corollary. The rule is that all posts lead to sexy time for Georg and Maria. Thus, all roads lead to Georg by default.

Aren't we always looking for excuses to talk about Georg/Christopher?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I need no excuse to talk about him!
Going back---I think that he would perhaps go in and say goodnight to the children before going to the gazebo. If Maria is out there, they have clearly retired for the evening. If it was late enough, he may even just check in on them, and watch them sleeping for a moment, before going to her.

But that would leave quite a long time for her to be mooching around the gazebo in solitude; she might have gone by the time he gets there!!

Ah, but we don't know how long she's been there; and if she is trying to stay away from what she believes to be the happily engaged couple, she could stay there for hours.

I need to stop reading this thread because utility's ideas are giving me ideas for a fic and I must, must, MUST concentrate on the next chapter of "WI, WW, and WSB"
Of course, if utility would like to write something herself, who am I to stand in the way? The ideas put forth in this thread would certainly lead to sexy time and, well...do I even have to say it?? :-)

I think that's my biggest block with ch. 9 of Feels Like Home. No prospect of sexy time for a while, and bringing Elsa back in is giving me anxiety. Poor Maria.
I'll have to jot down all the other ideas crowding my brain and just write it already.

I totally get it. Its not easy to get into that angsty head space and, if you're anything like me, you feel all the emotions of/with the characters as you're writing them. You can't exactly easily explain how/why you've reduced yourself to tears to those around you.

Couldn't resist putting this in here - I think the writing says 'My darling Captain, call me when those hills stop singing....Elsa Schraeder'
Haha! Someone has a sense of humour!

That was brilliant, and so perfectly Elsa. The "losing her virginity to the mailman" part made me laugh out loud. (tbh I think "the mailman" would be way too wimpy to even try)

Yes, thanks for reposting. My favorite parts are that Maria shouts every word (there's some truth to that) and that she has a great, great deal in common with the children.

I wonder if Elsa can see the grounds from her bedroom (suite?) window, because how awkward would it be if Maria and Georg came back into the villa just as she was trying to get herself and her luggage out the door? It would take some tactful planning on her end if she had left that night, so I'm inclined to think that she just spent the night packing and left before dawn. After all, Maria and Georg would have been up late, so the chances of of running into them in the early morning would be much slimmer and much less embarrassing, and at least that way Elsa could have arranged for transportation without having to endure Max (though what an interesting car ride that would make, I admit).

Oh, I don't know. I think Maria and Georg spent a large part of the evening/wee hours of the next morning in that gazebo. Elsa running into them would be chance: slim to none.

It may be summer, but it does get cold at night, especially as it wanes. I'd say they walked the perimeter of the lake (at least on his property), wandered through the gardens, and then retired to his study or some such thing before bed. Maybe he pulls out all the romantic stops and reads her poetry... Yeah, this always turns into a discussion of Georg.
