Just for a stater on this funny side on this board, this is a thread where you can finish the line in the Subject: Ex: You know you have watched TSOM too many times when.... ever you see a picture of a mountain you spontaneously twirls around and starts to sing "the hills are alive with the sound of music...." ----- Now it's your turn

you know you've watch TSOM too many times when ...you're camping in the rain and instantly start singing 'raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...' ...whenever Julie Andrews is on TV, your 5 year old says, "hey, it's maria!" ...you can't just say "goodbye" to someone, you have to sing "so long, farewell..."

and, riffing on that last point, you find yourself inserting bits of dialogue into your real life. As in, "show it to me, please?" and, "can we do this every day?" or "oh, darling just this once?"

You hold you're book just like with Brigitta. When someone asks your age, then you will sing "I am _____ going on _____" *I always do that. Going up in stairs singing "Do Re Mi" just like on the last part of that scene.

You compare every man you meet to Christopher Plummer, yet none can really compare!

Mine is When there's a thunderstorm and the thunder roars, I always say to my sister, "Why does it do that? Well, The lightning says something to the thunder and the thunder answers back". Another is when my friends ask me about some unfamiliar things, I always say "Just some local urchins".

You know you've watched TSOM too many times (never!!) when you can't watch it with a straight face anymore.
I can't, I just can't. Not unless I'm really in a mood to take it completely seriously. Otherwise it's shenanigans, inappropriate comments, and gleeful drooling over Chris throughout.
Exhibit A: my avatar.

... you live a flat(ish) state but pretend the clouds on the horizon are snow-covered austrian alps. (happened on my way home this evening).

Same for me - except I saw the real snow-covered Alps peeking through the cloud when I was flying north through France last week, and I couldn't help staring in case I also saw some evidence of Our Friends!

... you're sitting in a coffee shop observing a man and a woman sitting at a table stare at each other and you just know they are falling in love in front of your very eyes and each has their hands on the table like they want to grab the other's hands and every time you dare to look at them again their faces seem closer than the last time and then you realize you can keep staring because they really don't seem to notice you're doing it because they aren't looking anywhere except at each other and it makes you think of georg and maria and you want to write about it.
as i type this.

...or you gradually realise that the story of a couple you know is the story of TSOM; he (a slightly autocratic naval captain) was widowed and left with 3 children to look after, she (the younger nanny)came to help out with looking after them, and they fell in love, got married and are currently 'living happily ever after'.
And yet, and yet, it isn't quite the same: it just hasn't got the magic...oh, dear! Something tells me I have been watching too much SOM!

No. REALLY, indigo? YOU know someone like that? I guess I'm not surprised that it doesn't seem as magical in "real life," the absence of a camera crew, clever screenwriters, gorgeous scenery, legendary music and so on probably DOES count for something.

Yes, it's really true, although I knew of them for 5 years before I pieced together their story. Imagine my surprise!
But somehow Real Life is not always that alluring, when people have to work hard to earn a living, and looking after 3 of someone else's children isn't always all that easy. Somehow the Romance can get a little lost...especially when we are spoilt by Our Friends in TSOM, who are both exemplary in their looks and - well-oodles of charisma, soft focus, lovely music etc.
I'll stick with my fantasy, I'm happy with that!

You know you've watched TSOM too many times when your 9 year old tells you, "Mommy, you look a lot like Julie Andrews. But with more wrinkles."

Hey, at least it was Julie from TSOM and not Princess Diaries or Tooth Fairy. Though she looks pretty damn good regardless!

As in, "show it to me, please?" and, "can we do this every day?" or "oh, darling just this once?" It doesn't happen much, but I find it happening in my writing too. Like, "can it be, or could I have just imagined it?" Did anyone notice that the items I quoted above all sound like double entendres? this group has definitely, uh, matured.

Okay here's mine. You know you have seen TSOM too many times when you know the songs by heart, can more or less quote the entire thing and get angry at people who get the facts wrong

You know you've seen it too many times when your husband who doesn't really care for the movie starts quoting it back to you. Yeah, I know. But I don't really like football and he has season tickets, so we call it even.

This happened to me a lot. One time, she hugged me then I told her (like a fangirl), "oh, I love you so much! You and the Captain!" and she said "Oh Louisa, Your Father and I love you too." weird but I like it. Even the Captain calls me "Louisa" like I'm really his daughter. It's like I'm one of the seven or maybe I'm really one of the seven on my dreams. hahaha.
