You know you've watched the Sound of Music too many times when people start buying you gifts based on the movie. From a friend I got a plate that depicts the Laendler scene with Chris and Julie in mid sweep and from my husband the Barbie as Maria doll. For myself I bought the Dept.56 Von Trapp villa house to add to my Christmas Village(It takes center stage every year and I can't wait to put it up this week!!) oh and it even has the gates and all the family in figurines!! This year I want to get a lake to put behind it and maybe make the terrace. Although I think the terrace might be built into the back...I'm not sure.

I know I have talked way too much about TSOM, when... Alright first some background information: at our university, we need to answer five security questions before we can reset our password. There are five questions we need to pick out, out of ten. One of them is: Who is/was your favourite childhood hero?
So a friend of mine said, while filling in his personal answer: Yours would be eh.. what's his name, Count von Trapp?

....when your husband says, "what would you like to drink with dinner," while he's setting the table, and you reply, "oh, undoubtedly the wine."
This just happened.

The real question is, did HE know it was a line from the movie?

when I said it? No, but he gets partial credit for applauding when I told him.

Almost on the same thread, you know you're obsessed with Julie Andrews when: Your 3 year old thinks Julie is your best friend as you talk about her so much Your husband knows instantly what your talking about when you randomly say things like 31 weeks and 3 days (since I met Julie herself) When you can tell when a photo of Julie was taken within only a few years just by looking at her hairstyle I'm sure there are a few more but those are the ones that just have come to mind over the past few days. I think I need some help

I lost track of this thread somehow, and so maybe it's too late, but mquest, I would do anything to see a photo of your villa! Too good to be true!

Yeah, I ran around like a mad woman at the Mirabelle gardens in Salzburg trying to re-enact Do Re Mi many years ago when I was there. Totally embarrassing since I didn't know anyone else in the tour group, but TOTALLY loved it! Actually I pulled out my photos of when I was in Salzburg the other day just out of interest, but those were the days pre-digital cameras so I only have about half a dozen or so and they were't that good. A bit disappointing really

You know you have . . . . when you are facing down piles of laundry from a two-week trip, and you say to your spouse, "I'm going to climb this mountain of laundry until I find my dream."

You know when.... Facing a long day you sing to yourself, "What will this day be like, I wonder?" You cannot simply speak the words, "favorite things" anymore, you have to sing them. ALL of your friends know how much you love Julie Andrews and even make jokes about how what you want for your birthday is for her to show up on your doorstep. You hear Julie speak of her favorite tea and so you seek it out and buy it and secretly refer to it as your "Julie Andrews tea." (Not exactly a SOM thing, but close enough, I say).

so... this is going to be the weirdest one yet.
you know you have spent too much time with TSOM proboards when the people you have never met yet talk to practically everyday on the internet start to pop up in your dreams. i mean, it was the idea of you guys... but still, the "idea of you" was in the next room.

...when you almost buy sunglasses, sweater, and pajamas you don't need simply because they have white flowers on them and you can convince yourself that they look exactly (nothing AT ALL) like edelweiss.

... when you read a story about a guy named 'George' and you can't help but read 'Georg'. true story. I can't even mention Georg in our house at all now as all I get is eye rolls and mock laughter from my husband as he still hasn't gotten over the fact that Georg's name is Georg (and how you pronounce it). True story. (you guys have NO idea what I have to put up with.... Oh, the other mocking I got this morning was when I mentioned that I was going to buy myself the audio book of "Home" as a present once all my assignments are finished. I said "How good would that be... 12 and a half hours of Julie talking about Julie" and I got the reply of "well I hope she curls up and dies at the end!". How rude!!) But anyway, back on topic... I know I have watched (and made my children watch) the Sound of Music too many times when they just randomly launch into a full rendition of one of the songs from the movie. Yesterday as we were leaving church, Becky sang "So Long, Farewell" as we walked to the car. We were parked a little bit away so she got through the whole song and was just starting on the second round as we got there.

My husband couldn't figure out why until he was passing through the family room when we were watching...I told him it was a TSOM thing...he wouldn't understand!

you know you've seen TSOM too many times when * you dress up as Maria on her wedding day wherever you go (forcing your mother and grandmother to lose their voices singing as you pretend to walk up the aisle and forcing your pysiotherapist to have to complete change her session) * you ask for a guitar for your birthday
(I was about three at the time these things happened)
