Are there any users from an old TSOM forum? I believe it was removed around 2008/2009. It was a very comprehensive forum with so much activity (and did I mention games?!). I really miss it. I wish the administrator contacted us before taking it down. I used a website called "WayBack Machine", an Internet archive that can take you back to any website (even the ones that were taken down), to re-trace the forum and voilĂ ! I was able to find it again. I took screen shots of it: The forum in 2007: The forum in 2008: If anyone was part of this forum, please let me know!! And your username too (if it's different from this forum)! I don't remember what username I had but it was either Sweet_Tooth or Pandance (it was most likely the former). Nonethless, I am very happy that a new TSOM fan forum has been created where we can share our love for the best movie on Earth! Thanks!

That's interesting - it is similar to, but different to, the SOM forum that I was a member of on Proboards which was taken down without notice in (I think)about 2010. That was run by Sandra/Shahrazad, and I had the same name I have now.
Why do all these websites keep getting taken down? More importantly, is there something we can do to prevent THIS site being taken down? I do think we ought to think about that because it seems to happen without any consultation ,and would be such a shame. Is there any way we could backup our archive? Anybody know about that?

paula Oh yes, I do remember you! I recognize your avatar. Quite distinctive indigoblue I'm not sure why these forums get taken down. Maybe it requires a lot of maintenance by the admin? I certainly do hope there's a way to archive all this information. There were a ton of rare pictures and hilarious posts on the old forum and now they are all gone. I regret not saving a lot of those pictures and files.

from the first picture, it looks like the moderator tried to tell why it was taken down...
i don't know if there is anything we can do, i know we are trying hard to observe TOS and play nice.
i was never a part of any of the forums that have been mentioned, including this site's forerunner. but from other experiences i know that sometimes people get offended easily, report the site to whatever powers that might be and just make everything miserable. we're a small but growing community and i'm proud to be a part of it because everyone seems quite down to earth and have only friendship and love of all things TSOM in mind. i think we're ok.
and sometimes the admins have a lot on their plate and need to do it for personal reasons. so i think if we can keep this low maintenance, the better. follow the few rules (not even sure there are rules) and be nice to each other, this site should enjoy a long and healthy life.

The only other theory I have about why forums (?fora - my Latin is pretty ropey) get taken down is to do with advertising revenues; presumably if few people look at a site then nobody will want to advertise there. The forum which was taken down in 2010 had been a bit quiet for a few weeks with a smaller membership than here (I think), so I wonder whether these get weeded out in favour of sites which generate more viewings. In which case, we should be ok for the time being as our membership is rising...keenly awaiting our 100th member!

That reminds me, do any of you advertise this forum to get more members? Like on Facebook? Tumblr? Twitter? Other TSOM fan sites? I found this site through Google.
EDIT: Also, as of today (March 24, 2015), we have our 99th member! So close to 100!

I think everyone just mentions it in their bios/author's notes on FFnet. At least that's how I found it.

She had an adults only policy and she had thought that an underage person who hadn't gotten membership from the forum decided to report us. She made a second forum but the site was really odd. The site we used enabled anyone who was part of the site to change things including the buttons. One day we would come in and they would be bunnies, the next day there would be porn gifs.
As for that first site bluesatinsashes, that looks like Vanessa's SOM forum? If it was indeed V's forum. I was known as Maria's Georg on there and Sandra's forums.

Bring 'em on! (just keep it clean).
We have 100 members now! About a third have never posted, but about half of those regularly lurk, which is fine with me. The only advertising I ever did was to encourage people to find out more on ff dot net (which is hard because you can't put links in PMs) and on FB. There is another TSOM fan group on FB that some of us are in, but I don't think a lot of those people would be that interested in our ultra micro analysis or fanfic. Other advertising ideas?

Trying Tumblr couldn't hurt. The fandom specifically devoted to TSOM (and often Julie Andrews in general as well) isn't terribly large, but it seems every single person on that website kind of has an unspoken unanimous agreement that she is queen of the universe and TSOM is the quintessential family film. Anyway, there are a number of people who post nothing but Julie; some might be interested. One of them was actually asking where to find TSOM fanfic a month or two ago. And every so often, stuff like this gem of a post crops up. Don't know if anyone would actually be interested, but like I said, it couldn't hurt. I will say that Tumblr is not for the faint of heart, though.

Just looking at other posts on the blog you linked to sagaofjenny, and it kind of warms my heart to see things like the Vanity Fair shoot getting 19,000 notes. There is definitely a shadow SoM fandom on tumblr.

But I hope that someone will promote us over there!

I don't know how to use tumblr, other than to follow a link there to something juicy I've found in a search.
I can tell you that of all my pinterest boards, my TSOM one gets the most follows and the most shares. By far.

I use tumblr for my other fanfic obsession (the lesser one. please). If I combined the two there my life would be over.
That and as much as I enjoy the fanart and spoilers/updates, I don't get tumblr.

I sent out a few promotions through TSOM and JA fan accounts on Instagram soooo we'll wait and see what happens!
