If the goal of the account is to be a sort of "official" promotional account for the forum, can I suggest changing the username to "soundofmusic_fics" or something like that? I'd also recommend switching the settings from private to public so people can see posts without having to follow it first. Of course, if you plan to use it as more of a personal account, feel free to ignore me lol. Hi thoughts-of-joy-dreams-of-love, this is so brilliant, I wish I had thought of it. I will change it to something like Sound of Music Fanfiction and more, and also make it public. Keeping in mind that I am an Instagram newbie, I made it private because as soon as I set it up, I was swamped with follows who seemed unrelated to anything I/we were interested in, some of whom were creepy. But maybe I'm supposed to let them all follow? It makes me nervous esp as this forum is now open. I have been thinking about posts but obviously I should be thinking harder. I know I need visuals. I was thinking of linking to some of our more interesting posts and I've made some links but I haven't gotten any further. the thing is, I want to promote this forum but I don't want to become a huge Instagram person, I need less SM in my life not more! any thoughts?

Most of those accounts were probably just bots It should be safe, just don't engage with them. You could also block and/or report them if they're really uncomfy. As for links, one of Instagram's quirks is that you can't add hyperlinks to the captions of posts - you can paste a URL there, but it'll just be the text and a viewer can't click on it. You can, however, add links in Instagram Stories or up to 5 in your account's bio. Here's the official Rodgers & Hammerstein Insta as an example! www.instagram.com/rodgersandhammerstein/?hl=en So I would definitely add a link back to our forum in the bio, since that's the first thing people would read when looking on the profile. Here's an article that talks more about links on Instagram (I'd say only points 1, 2, and 5 are relevant to you): www.makeuseof.com/tag/ways-add-links-instagram-posts/ This article is a tad outdated though, since you could only add 1 link to your bio at the time it was written. As far as posts go...because it is an image-focused platform, you could probably get a lot of use out of movie screenshots. Just using the most recent thread on here as an example ( sound-of-music-fics.freeforums.net/thread/119/ask-me?page=5), where y'all were discussing Maria's line "Please don't ask me," you could post a picture of that scene and make the caption something like "What does Maria mean when she says this? Does the Captain see right through it? Join the discussion at the link in our bio!" (That's a bit rough lol, but hopefully you get the idea.) You could also highlight new or ongoing fanfics on there, maybe post screenshots of particularly smart/funny/poignant comments...just spitballing here. If it were me, the first post I'd make would just be a cute graphic explaining what the forum is about, then I'd pin the post so it stays at the front of your feed. Here's how to do that: help.instagram.com/318456537074409/?helpref=uf_share It would probably be worth it to follow some other TSOM-related accounts just to get a feel for what others are posting (and commenting on their posts would be a good way to get eyes on your own account!) This probably seems like a lot haha, but Instagram is pretty simple to use once you get used to it. I wouldn't feel pressured to be a super active poster, either; this forum is inevitably slower-paced and that's okay. Anyway, those are just my thoughts as someone who's used it for a while - hope it's not too intimidating hahaha.

It’s been a doozy of a summer so far for me, so it hasn’t been a case of not having an interest in being on here, but much more the case of not having the energy or brain bytes to contribute. Things are finally settling down for me though, and as routine starts to solidify, I’ll have more time and energy for the various story fragments in my brain, and lovely in depth discussion that occurs here. Social media isn’t quite my forte, so I’m not sure how to lure in more folks, but I hope everyone here knows their engagements and contributions here are read and enjoyed thoroughly by me. You are all magnificent, and I’m glad to have found this forum!

yeah, dontevenknowher, it's a tough balance. We need a certain level of activity here to keep going, and I don't want to become really tied up with Instagram at this point in my life, but I feel like there is also such energy there that is similar to what we have had and I want to at least connect . It' just a different way of thinking that takes some translation.

I promised myself I would work on this more today. I really appreciate your wisdom as I try to keep a good balance!

Here's another really interesting one, again for British TV, with a lot of new material. The amusing Sue Perkins (a self-confessed SOM fan) tries to find out why it has such a lasting legacy. There is a lot of fascinating stuff in here, with clips from the real family films, interviews with Austrians, some funny moments at Sing-a-longs, and following the family route to the US. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMVXS_xNIz0 Something for you to enjoy with your cup of coffee! Do you think the reason Maria wanted her girls to join the convent and scared them away from marriage is because getting married was so traumatic for her? That she wanted her girls to have the life she herself wanted, thinking that this would make them happy, like she imagined it would have made her happy? Getting pushed into marriage by RM and then not finding out until it was too late that she couldn't ever go back to the life she wanted had to be scarring, right? Maybe this was her way of dealing with it.

Yes, but going into a convent was quite a big thing too...although I suppose they could leave if they wanted to.
I don't get the feeling that the Real Maria was an easy bunny.
