Slightly inappropriate to be dressed like that considering all those people around

so went this morning to check out the blooper on my dvd and it is so obvious now you know it is there, but i ended up watching the whole dance several times (and even made my husband watch it and had to ENDURE all his mocking comments - he really is terrible you know!!) but I noticed that when The Captain is clapping Maria as she dances around him, his eyes give the the one (or twice) over, completely checking her out!! Very awesome!!!

Oh, yes indeedy. He is having the time of his life, especially whens she lifts those skirts. I actually always thought that clapping was kind of weird, am I the only one? Like, what is he clapping FOR? (I know, I know, it's just rhythm, but I think it's creepy combined with the once-over.)

Yes, I think so, although Maria isn't your classic, uh, I think they call them "lightskirts." And I just watched it in slo-mo, OK, she doesn't lift her skirts that high, but he's looking at her as though she has.

so amazing that I've seen it so many times, and then you inspire me to look again, and I still can't get enough of it. His devilish look, really, throughout the whole thing. Double drool.

I don't think my husband understands it. I think he actually thinks I'm crazy as I did a frame by frame commentary for him. Maybe I am...??

Actually he threatened to join the forum (I outed myself last week about it, still haven't said anything about starting writing) just with the goal of ridiculing everything we discuss.
I like being crazy amongst friends... It is my "outlet" so to speak

I *love* the way CP gives her the once over; this is just one of the more delicious moments.
My husband thinks I'm nuts, I know it. And the kids blew my cover and told him I'm writing, he asked me the other night how my writing is going.
Now I think he's going to try and watch Barrymore with me; not sure I want him to watch me watching it.

my husband thought i was nuts way before you people came along.
re: clapping maybe it is less weird when you consider it is normally a ballroom full of people doing it. but used to think it was kinda magoo, too.

oh, yes, it definitely would look more normal when performed by a whole ballroom full of aristocrats.

Do you think there is something going on between the Captain and Maria? Mmmmmm, after seeing this, I'm not really sure the two of them are only friends...

Do you think there is something going on between the Captain and Maria? Mmmmmm, after seeing this, I'm not really sure the two of them are only friends... There have been many hours of speculation about the two of them in real life. Search around, the discussions are in many different threads! At that particular occasion, he called Julie a "miracle" and spoke very lovingly. At some award dinner a year or two ago honoring Chris, Julie sent a videotaped message of how much she loved him and wished she could be there, before telling him to "give my love to Elaine, that saintly woman who puts up with you every day".

As I recall the speculation centered a great deal on that behind the scenes picture of them sitting on the stone wall. I can't get to it right now but someone who wants to revive that discussion could post it here.

Thanks!!! I didn't think otherwise, only I saw things in the picture that weren't there... Just JA and CP make a sooooooooo nice couple!!! And in TSOM they were totally unbeatable... Don't think any couple in the whole world has surpassed them...

Oh, yes, and let me be clear to Irennuska that just because it's been discussed before, or whether or not we all agree, it's DEFINITELY fair game for a discussion.

Going back to the clapping in the Laendler once more, I couldn't think what it reminded me of when he claps as Maria dances, then I remembered it is very like a Spanish Flamenco dance, where the man claps to the rhythm as the lady dances in her swirly skirt; he even looks the part!
