anything would be better than that ridiculous pinecone/silly whistle exchange. (Didja ever notice the abashed shrug he gives when she mentions the whistle? Props to CP for acting his way through a really stupid moment)
Digression: once they're engaged, obviously, they're going to have to talk about about the whole whistles-and-uniform thing -- I drafted a fanfic about that conversation once, but I never published it. You know, "Georg, what were you THINKING?") I had a whole backstory for it.
I like SG more too and I thought this one was OK. OC has the poignancy that we know that they won't ever have the peacerful, ordinary life she craves, or even the trips around the world he promises her.

I'm sure it was a pretty short discussion.
"Georg, you know the uniforms and whistles are gone tomorrow, right?" "okay, okay" "Except for yours. I can't resist a man in uniform." "But you still don't know my signal"

LOL.
I had this whole backstory which basically boiled down to these were innocent family traditions under Agathe that got out of hand. You know, blame the dead wife. (this was a joke).

I'll admit it. I've watched "No Way to Stop It" on YT twice today. She is so great, and I personally like his angry performance.

It needs a lot of polishing, because I made this in quite a hurry, but here ya go! Maria (1965)'s reaction's a bit too short/quick imo, so I'll remake it asap Bu now you at least know my intention with it

I was tempted to ask you for the kiss only. But you know, I'm now thinking that Carrie might have a kissing problem, too.

For some reason, the gif's now frozen, and I have a startled, slightly(?!) tipsy Captain staring at your comment..

goodness, that made me just laugh like a crazy person. i didn't see a kissing problem, though. i mean, it seemed rather clumsy but she was a nun. movie captain seemed to take things slow for his ex-nun. stage captain seemed to apply the 'sink or swim' method to it. both approaches have their appeal. to me, anyway.
what are we talking about again?
oh, right. chewing captain is still funny.

Sink or swim, ROFL. (NOT Rolf). And I agree, taking it slow vs. sink or swim is like chocolate vs. vanilla. And clumsy = sweet. All good. Stage Captain sets at it quite industriously, it must be his vampire training. The thing I didn't like is that she looked at the end like she was swallowing her gum. And maybe she was. (Chewing gum, I mean).

I did like the kiss but thought it too intense for the scene. But maybe that's just me.

maybe she was thinking about how she had to get off stage and put that wedding dress on... i can't help but think poor carrie had a lot of the time schedule riding on her for this whole thing. another point in favor of a veteran stage actress.
or maybe the gum thing.

I remember the change from the honeymoon suit to the festival dress was literally seconds. Once I entered with the festival dress unzipped, as it got stuck and I couldn't miss the line. My best friend was playing Georg, and he put his arm around me and held it shut until we could get offstage again. It can be a lot of pressure. Not to mention being 16 and peeling down to my slip in the wings in front of the rest of the cast.

btw, i love the idea that the uniforms were born out of baby sailor suits. the only question i would have is, wouldn't wearing them remind him of her? and he banishes things that remind him of her, ergo... no uniforms. unless it is one of those secret things that he just cant' let go of. which is possible. i mean, he did keep the kidlets around... he didn't get rid of everything. and it could be one of those moments when wife #2 steps in it. she goes on about how awful they were only to finally be told they were agathe's idea with a heartwarming and sentimental story that makes her feel bad. not that i want maria to feel bad. but, you know, when they fight, they have to make up. maybe she promises to put sailor suits on their babies. or wear one herself. use your imagination, ladies...

Ariane "live tweeted" TSOM Live some days ago, when she watched it herself. I remember reading that Carrie did have like, 50 seconds to change, so I understand if she was stressing about it.. So many things can go wrong, like utility_singer told us. Phew. So, I remade the GIF.. And made two extra GIFs as well. I might make a separate thread in the artwork section, because I'm planning on making more GIFs.. It's so much fun A reaction GIF with only G: A reaction GIF with both G and M: Let me explain this one. It's basically the same as the one above. G is all like "What the...?" and Maria, oblivious to it all, is like "....? What's the matter, darling?" G: "Oh er... nothing, love, it's nothing." Maria's obviously satisfied with his answer, because she has no idea what's going on. At all. Poor lass.

Being of line yesterday (well never found time to get in here at least...) this thread has moved around a lot.... Liked the talk about the kiss... FYI... I found the live show online: www.putlocker.com/file/740891DA126C9C63#It is filled with pop ups and adds you have to navigate around... but I got to see it today...well only to the wedding so far... will watch the rest tomorrow... and I've made a word doc that I take notes in... so some time tomorrow I'll post my comments (short as they might be but hopefully still some input on this live show...) Now I really must be of to bed... it's getting rather late, can't read everything in here to night... see you tomorrow...

This was one of the very first things I ever tried to write, and I think the idea was that they were all outgrowing their clothes, and looking like ragamuffins, and the governesses don't stay long enough to deal with it and he finally loses patience and tells someone to put them all in their uniforms all the time, period, I don't want to hear about it anymore. I wasn't thinking so much about how that might make him miss her, I was less into grieving G back then.

Okay got around to watch the final part of it... had to watch the "gazebo"/kiss scene again, just to catch up on things Well this is what I wrote in my little notes: (it's short comments that I did, hope they make sense... ): ------------------------------------- My thoughts on the live show Carries voice…. Well just weird to hear someone else sing “Maria’s” songs…. But after awhile I got used to it and she is singing okay… Fun scene between Frau Schmidt and Franz… Too young a captain… Love the children they are adorable… Like the wise Brigitha noting they use more notes on the word “anything”… very much like her… Rolf in lederhosen… *ROFL* Frau Schmidt and Maria in her bedroom… give much insight to Maria about WHY the children chase their governesses away… (to be with him ) Sad that the captain never sees Maria in THAT nightgown… Definitely not as “boxy” as the one from the movie *wink* Love the moment when he gives Maria his whistle… after the children have sung for Elsa… that has a huge impact on things between them… (think I read a fic were they throw the whistle in the lake, after the gazebo scene, think Bellasamchisjulie is the writer… maybe ?) The extravagant waltzing moves (the jumps etc.) when we move into the party… weird but had to remind myself, once again, it IS a STAGE production and NOT a movie Slightly put off with Max when HE is the one that doesn’t want Maria at the dinner… that scene was SO different… Again a VERY different scene with Brigitha who tells Maria that the Captain loves her…. That kinda worked okay for me… Love the way the captain sits by the fountain and sings with the children… Sad that my favourite line is not in it… Elsa: “…and somewhere out there, is a woman who will never be a nun” I’m not much for the “gazebo” scene dialogues here… well okay the line about “when you were a little girl were there a little boy kissing you… well that is different too…” (don’t think I got it 100% word by word ) was rather sweet and romantic… And yes the kiss was wonderful, can’t get too many kisses Yes that wedding dress is just SO wrong…. And the matching dresses the girls had on was pretty, but their head pieces was just plain weird (IMHO) Very different from the movie with Rolf and the telegram… and Hr. Zeller and his men that comes… but got to love the change from the house to the stage of the festival… very nicely done…. (this is something that I have always admired when watching a stage production of a play, the different changes from one scene to another… they do it so smoothly and effortlessly that you sometimes never really notice it… ) The Abbey garden scene: VERY different take on Rolf’s part/role in their escape… kinda liked this one better… with Liesl jumping infront of her father, and Rolf changes his mind about turning them over to the nazies… guess he loves her somewhere behind his “Nazi” exterior. ------------------------------- Think that’s it… wrote this as it came to mind… so I paused the movie to write…. Otherwise I would have forgotten half of it… I’ve seen a Danish stage production in 2004… (a looooooooong time ago) and just found the program that I bought, with pictures etc… soo fun to see costumes and stage setup etc… (on a fun, like real fun, (at least for me), side note I noticed that my uncle played in the orchestra, he plays bassoon… my god that was surreal… because I don’t think I ever noticed this at least I don’t remember hearing about him being part of the production… ok I’ll stop rambling about this, it really is only me who can see the fun in this….. *LOL* ) Seeing it as a stage production I really think they all did a marvelous job… sometimes the acting seemed a bit stiff and rigid, but I can only imagine the pressure they have been under… it’s a LIVE telecast of the musical, with millions (I guess) watching… and the cameras are close by, catching EVERY little flicker of your eyes, or nervous twist in your face… when on a real stage production, things like this would never be noticed (scrutinized) as much… (hope you know what I mean….) So this was my input on this live show... now I'll try to catch up on things in here... and maybe try to see the Behind the scenes clips too...

Yeah, I agree. On a normal stage version, you're free to look at whatever you like, because there's so much going on.. This version made the decisions for you, like you didn't get to see Elsa's entrance during the Ländler.. She was suddenly there! That's one thing I don't like about set ups like these..
I sadly never saw any of the two Dutch stage versions, but I know I like the second one better, judging the lyrics. Like, in the latest version, the lyric that goes with Fa is "your father is a hero". I think this fits perfectly, especially during the confrontation scene between Von Schreiber/Zeller and Georg, when he makes up his mind not to join the Third Reich's navy. In the first version, Fa went along with "Family of Mama". Ugh.

finally watched it, by Youtube well, If I'll rate it as a Stage Musical, I'll give them 6 out of 10. Not satisfied but they're good. Especially Liesl and Louisa! These two girls are so cute. Ariane and Ella told me, they are really close with each other and that they love Louisl moments on the show! I'm impressed with the Kurt and Marta too. Team Elsa-Max is also my favorite. Sadly. They stood up than Team Maria-Captain. There is really something wrong with this version. Maybe the songs and the acting of the Maria and some cast lol. but it's fine. They're not that bad but not that good also. just fair.
