I must say, when I sat through the stage play of TSOM with Carrie Fisher about 4 years ago, although it was commendable on several fronts, I found myself detaching myself from it early on because it was no match for the film. So I had about an hour to sit there and think what the differences were (which were legion), but the most obvious, yawning difference was exactly what this author says at the end of her piece; the film is sexy but in a very subtle way, and that is its sophistication. And that is exactly why it is celebrating its 50th anniversary of popularity this week.

I preordered my copy of the 5 disk set and it should get here tomorrow!

Why are those sets so much better than the American one? I might be heading over to yesasia to order the Japanese version! I got mine in the mail the other day. I watched the special features and they are the exact same as the 45th anniversary limited edition box set. The ONLY difference is the hour long documentary Julie made (which has it's own disc) and the additions to the soundtrack. So if you have the 45th limited edition box set, I don't think I would go for this new version. If you do not have the limited box set then I would highly recommend this. At 30 dollars (on amazon.com) it's a very good deal for as much as you are getting. The box set (originally $90, has now gone up to $150 on amazon!) <-- so you are getting almost the exact same content, minus the music box, scrapebook (no not the von trapp kid's book), mini soviner book and postcards. Which I admit to only toating out once and a great while. I did really like the new doc. Some crazy insanely HD cameras followed Julie as she revisited some of the locals from the film and interviewed various people in Salzburg. Sadly she did not go to the actual von Trapp villa, and I would have hoped that she would have gone inside of Fronburg but then maybe they were forbidden to go inside because of classes. I loved the ending of the doc they edit shots to an instrumental version of Climb Every Mountain. It's absolutely wonderful! I would have liked to have had the extensive gallery included on the 50th that was on the 5 star collectors set (35 anniversary (i think!?)), they went through the whole entire shoot of the film. There are telegrams, press clipings, photos and transcripts which go through the entire film. Most of which don't seem to be included in any other release. Including the transcript of the deleted scenes! Also...Do you think this was intentional? Or a happy accident? (I remember when I saw this picture, that it seemed really familiar)

I think it is a very natural way of posing a 'couple', but for those of us who follow, it is a happy coincidence.
Oh, and Julie *did* go to the real villa, and it will be shown on the special airing on ABC on Wednesday at 10 pm eastern.

This interview with Julie is so typical New York Post -- with its sensationalistic hints at CP being a great kisser. Then I stopped and reminded myself of what actually happens in the movie, which is pretty tame. Still, nice interview.

So.
Ticket sales begin tomorrow for the cinematic release. But there also isn't any price or location information for it until tomorrow. I just checked for a different movie to try to get an idea of where these things happen, and there was a theatre just about ten minutes from here on the list. Surprising because other than the university, there really isn't...anything...in the middle of Pennsylvania. Hopefully the same theater will be showing TSOM.
