I just found a theater that is selling tickets for the theater release in my area. I'm putting that on my must list, but I think I may have to find someone to go with me because I doubt my husband is going to want to go, lol. He's not into musicals that much.

Just bought 2 for April 22 at 7pm. Don't know who'll be joining me yet. It certainly will not be my husband, son, or older daughter. They've already said "no way".

I bought mine last night and I've already got two friends going with me on April 19. I'm trying to convince my roommate to come too but she says she thought she might go home that weekend. And I'm like, TSOM? On the big screen??? How do you pass this up?
I was so convinced that I would have to go home because there wouldn't be a theater around here showing it, but the one I'm going to is a 20-minute bus ride away. So lucky.

Just bought mine last night. It's playing in 3 different theaters where I live on April 19th and the 22nd. I'm going on the 19th at 2:00 (I have to be able to get the kids home in time for school the next day so 7:00 was out of the question).

I saw that! Loved Chris on the piano! Me too! He's really good at it! I really really wished they had let him play the piano in SOM. I also saw a clip of him playing completely smashed!

Yeah, I think back then it was normal for him to be completely smashed, lol. I agree though it would have been a nice touch to have had him play in the movie.

I saw that! Loved Chris on the piano! Me too! He's really good at it! He could certainly have played professionally if that had been the way he opted to go. And perhaps this is why so many fics feature Georg playing, when in reality Georg played violin, I believe?

It would have served as a fascinating insight into his personality if they had had him playing a bit around the beginning of when we meet him (when he is at his most frosty),and it would have revealed more depth about what a mixed-up sort of personality he was. An opportunity missed, perhaps?!
PS Anybody else find a man playing the piano like that incredibly sexy?

This is the Japanese 50th Anniversary package (sorry about the size of the pictures, photobucket was giving me grief ) In response to the Japanese and Australian 50th anniversary editions, why is the North American one so stripped down? I mean, in Canada, the Collector's Edition is just the 5 discs. Nothing else. If someone knows of a fancier box set/combo pack that is sold here, please let me know. I remember seeing a 45th anniversary combo package with a whole bunch of goodies being sold in stores, so I was expecting something like that for the 50th anniversary. I'm also kind of bummed that most of the bonus features for the 50th anniversary are on Blu-ray and I don't own a Blu-ray player :/

Is that the 45th anniversary box set did not sell as well as they anticipated. If you recall, it was a number box edition which they still have in stock a lot of places. I've seen it at Target and it's still at Amazon. Most likely due to it's price, I think they opted for a stripped down version this time. It's currently 30 on Amazon, which is a super good price for 5 discs (1 dvd, 3 blu rays and a cd). It bums me out too and I really want the Japanese Edition but I don't see it on yesasia. Get yourself a blu ray player, because SOM is amazing on blu ray! Things you wouldn't have noticed before...details!!! IMO if you want all of the bonus features get this set (if you don't have the 45th box edition) and the 5 Star Collectors Edition and you are good to go.

I think he would be a fun person to sit down and just chat with. He seems to have quite a few stories to tell for various interviews I've seen him do.

Do you have the 45th box edition? If so, how would you compare that to the 50th anniversary? (ie. which one do you prefer?) I sure do. I have #123,45 out of 250,000 <--I got a real kick out of that. 45th Box Edition 148 on Amazon, 90 at Target Includes: Letter of authentication The Sound of Music: A Few of Our Favorite Things (87 pg small book about the von Trapp Family all the way to the Film.) My Favorite Things Music Box (claims it's handpainted) Theatrical Souviner Book (mini version of the one they had back when the film premised, it tells the ENTIRE story and has profiles on major cast and crew.) Postcards (cheesey postcards made from images used in the film and some boring fonts) Now as for the discs there really isn't much of a difference between the two sets. 45th has 4 discs. 2 bluray, 1 dvd and 1 cd. 1. Bluray Disc (film with commentaries and interactive bonus features) 2. Bonus Disc (interviews, programs, pictures, etc) 3. dvd standard edition of the film. 4. 45th anniversary edition soundtrack. 50th Anniversary (Looks like they bumped the price up to 50 on Amazon.) 5 Discs, 3 bluRays, 1 Dvd, 1 Cd Is basically the stripped down version of the box set. The actually discs are THE SAME, with the exception of the soundtrack which is slightly different. And there is an additional disc which ONLY has Julie Andrews new documentary. The remastered version of the film is THE SAME as the one in the 45th edition. All of the bonus features that are in the 45th edition are included in the 50th. Which do I prefer? I don't toat my extras from the box set out very often. I generally keep them in the box and usually just have the actual bluray out in case I want to watch it. Truth be told other than that I really don't prefer one to the other as I don't listen to the soundtrack that often. They are so similar, I generally have a habit of watching what ever is the newest one. I hope that answers your question. PS - I found this last night as I was looking up SOM on tv troupes. A Direct Quote: "Remaster: The 45th Anniversary Blu-Ray looks so detailed that you can clearly see each individual blade of grass." <---I'm not the only one.

Just curious, what are the slight differences between the 45th and 50th soundtracks? About the 45th box edition, I find it a bit weird how they released a special box collection for the 45th anniversary...why couldn't they have waited for the 50th anniversary to do that? Had they done that, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I just find that 45 is an odd number

50th CD has pretty much the entire soundtrack, while the CD includes just the vocal numbers and the wedding processional.
Also in the 50th set is a documentary of Julie going around to sites in Salzburg, which is very nice and a good companion to the 20/20 special.
