It would have served as a fascinating insight into his personality if they had had him playing a bit around the beginning of when we meet him (when he is at his most frosty),and it would have revealed more depth about what a mixed-up sort of personality he was. An opportunity missed, perhaps?! PS Anybody else find a man playing the piano like that incredibly sexy? did you ever read Sandra's fanfic "the attic?" talk about sexy piano playing Georg.

I think he would be a fun person to sit down and just chat with. He seems to have quite a few stories to tell for various interviews I've seen him do. Have you read his memoir, "In Spite of Myself"? So many delicious stories in there.

From some of the things I've heard I have no doubt. You can't drink like he did and not have wild antics.

I'm just amazed he is still so healthy, after all the alcohol and cigarettes he must have consumed!

I'm just amazed he is still so healthy, after all the alcohol and cigarettes he must have consumed! Yeah me too, but I read somewhere that once you quit all that your body can reverse some of the effects (not all, but some). My grandfather smoked until he was in his 70s and then quit cold turkey because I wouldn't go anywhere near him when he had a cigarette in his hands. He couldn't stand his granddaughter not wanting to be near him. He lived until he was 95 years old. Sometimes it's a matter of good genes as well.

That is why he says Elaine "literally saved my life". She got him off the hard stuff, and I read an interview with him somewhere along the line that she makes him go to the gym several times a week. He quit smoking after a medical scare. He did finally quit playing tennis a few years ago to "save my knees" for working.

" bluesatinsashes said: Thanks so much!! Just curious, what are the slight differences between the 45th and 50th soundtracks? About the 45th box edition, I find it a bit weird how they released a special box collection for the 45th anniversary...why couldn't they have waited for the 50th anniversary to do that? Had they done that, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I just find that 45 is an odd number " - Haven't listened to the new soundtrack as of yet. Looks like there are french version of the songs on there. I do agree it is a bit odd that they would have the box set for the 45th.

That's a wonderful article. Love it. I hope to be able to visit Austria someday. If we ever go to visit my husband's family in Italy I'm going to tell him he has to take me to Austria while we are there.

"[The real Maria von Trapp] greeted Christopher Plummer (Captain Von Trapp) with a kiss on the lips, exclaiming: “My God, darling. I wish my husband looked as good as you.” Excellent.

I'm at the theater right now too. There are quite a few people here. So excited. I'm sitting to the two cutest older ladies that are so sweet and were telling me about the first time they saw it in the theater in 1965. Fun times.

I just came back and it was pretty much the best thing I've ever done. Did you guys see the trivia questions they kept cycling through before the film began? Amateur hour, so easy, lol. But seeing it in a movie theater was about a billion times better than any other time I've watched it.
There were a ton of people who came to see it. Some children and a lot of older people as well. The entire row in front of mine was a big group of ladies who had seen it originally in 1965, all talking about the Diane Sawyer interview and Carol Burnett and Robert Wise and this and that and the other thing. They were pretty much me. They kept their singing to a minimum (which I was grateful for), but they did all join in when the crowd sings Edelweiss at the festival, which I thought was cute. And we all applauded at the end, which I have never done in a theater before.
