One of my favourites, exactly for that reason, the way he's standing and grinning like an idiot. lol Love it! Robert Wise holding her as well, but Julie is looking at Bob as if saying "I don't mind."

Yep, that's long been one of my favorites.

Julie's left arm must be around CP's waist too, no?

For some unexplained reason, I had always thought this was taken after a final boozy night out (judging by the general air of things), but looking at the background, presumably this was taken at the Rocky Riding School after the Great Escape (although the Rev Mother wasn't in that scene). We have already concluded that CP was well wasted then, which explains his expression, but Julie looks more than happy with the way things are going (even though they were both married to other people). Max doesn't look like he is in with the swing of things, although the Rev Mother looks as though she could be...didn't we have a photo way back which showed her looking at CP with an adoring gaze?! Maybe Robert Wise is trying to lay a hand on Julie to steady things a bit...ah! a picture tells a thousand words...

Yes, we have discussed this photo before, but always fun to do so again. I think it was determined that CP is very much showing a display of possessiveness while Wise looks as if he's trying to rescue her, but she isn't looking like she wants to be rescued, lol.

In case you thought they were so blissfully alone in the Laendler (apart from the kids, of course)! Makes me wonder how they can make it look so real when there are so many people lurking about...

Makes me wonder how long they had to stand like that - all close and wrapped up in each other while the cast and crew stood by as onlookers. It's amazing how they were able to make sparks fly while they were being watched so closely.

If young CP stared at me that way, it could be possibly difficult for me to notice any other people in the room (I'm joking, well... maybe not)
For Julie, she just simply has the magic to make people believe "When I'm with her I'm confused out of focus and bemused. And I never know exactly where I am".
And also besides the sparks between them, they are both professional and have lots of stage experiences which means they usually needed to deal with a lot more people while acting.

Looking at that photo, most of the children aren't paying attention, Marta? is on the wrong side of the stage walking to the correct side, Kurt is missing unless his head is a bit to the right of CP's elbow, and Robert Wise is saying something to another guy. Makes you wonder how many takes they had to do.

Do you think this is that bit at the end when they gaze into each others'eyes? I rather think they would have 'dismissed' the kids at that stage, when it all got a bit smoochy, so maybe they are experimenting with camera shots, etc in an earlier part?

Yeah I guess they're possibly getting ready for the scene, maybe discussing the procedure and the camera positions etc but hasn't started shooting yet. Because the little one and the two crew members were kinda on the way. And you can see Eleanor Parker was not even facing them. BTW I just remember at this interview Diane Sawyer asked Julie if she could go back and film one scene again just for pleasure, which scene she would choose. Julie instantly picked this one (and the one on the stairway right before the lonely goatherd).

That would be my guess. Looks like they are practicing and it discussing how to put it all together.

Guess it's a rehearsal, as they're not wearing the same outfit in the movie.

Yes, and Marta is waiting in the wings as she does in the film.

Not so much 'Behind The Scenes' as the 'Scenery Behind Them!' I find this photo interesting because I assume the near foreground behind them is 'real' stage set, meaning they could walk upon it, to the light line about 10m away. Do you think after that it is painted scenery backdrop? It has always bothered me because the lake is quite near the gazebo, but they seem to have forgotten this, and there is no sign of it! Also posted this to renew this great thread for you all.

It looks painted, the colors are so soft. And yes, there should be a lake right behind Georg's back. The lake is in Austria and the gazebo in California, but still, someone should have this sorted out, right? Maybe they thought showing a lake in the background would take away from scene happening in the gazebo so they just made the background a consistent line of trees?

thanks for reviving this thread indigoblue. I believe I read that the whole backdrop was painted. it certainly demonstrates that the grounds are extensive!

No, the grounds are VERY extensive...(to the extent that they obliterate the lake!)
