I'd come across this other version on Instagram as well, just didn't know how to post it to the site from my phone. So I'm glad you did! Haha I already had two other versions, but I knew from his hands this one was new. Plus I don't know if you've noticed, but he's holding something white in that picture. I was sitting on the bus scrolling through my Instagram feed and when this new version popped up, I was totally screaming inside. I hope no one noticed me on the bus, because I must have been grinning like an idiot. Lol

I noticed, eve93! I assume it's just a packet of cigarettes, but it could be any number of intriguing things... I also got a bit excited when I saw this, it gives me hope that there are other pictures (or even that blooper reel) hidden away just waiting to be released. |

I would pay so much money to see a blooper reel, oh my goodness. You'd think they'd have released something like that if they had one for the 50th anniversary...maybe for the 75th anniversary?? Yes please.
Did Julie and Chris actually meet for the first time when they met for lunch before making the film really began? I wonder what their very first impressions were of each other.

Am I right in thinking the last photo of them both sitting together was taken on the same day as the photos below? Her dress is similar and his hair is a bit different to the film- (a bit longer and combed more softly). I had always wondered where the garden is where they are photographed.   |

Good question. It could very well be the same day. For pretty much all the publicity shots they are wearing these outfits, so it could very well be. And thinking about, I don't think either wear these outfits in scenes that were filmed on location. And (as far as I know) some outdoor scenes were in Hollywood. Definitely plausible that the garden was built for pictures.

They never wear those outfits in the same scenes, but that's the Ländler dress, I think. I love those two photos. They look so relaxed in them together. Sometimes you see publicity shots of couples from movies and they look stiff, almost like they're just there because they have to be, but if I saw these photos and didn't know them I would think that were just a regular couple because they just look happy with each other. They just look so comfortable with one another, like the way she just sort of melts into him in the first photo.

The jacket he is wearing in the pair of photos above is grey/black - maybe this is his gazebo outfit?
Although the tie is the same in the garden picture, his suit looks as though it has a bluish tinge - not very Captainlike - maybe his own?

In the one above, the colours are a little different from the one in clarinetjamie's avatar. To me at least, the one above looks closer to the real colours. |

The suit he is wearing in the garden pictures is very similar, if not the same, as the suit he wears on the balcony/in the gazebo. And yes, that is the Laendler dress.
If I recall correctly, they had once crossed paths in NYC when both were doing theater work, but the lunch was indeed their first "meeting".
As for the rest, well....chemistry. <3

Yeah I think it was in a bar in NYC, when Julie was still doing My Fair Lady with Rex Harrison, she said she never saw Chris there or that she doesn't remember seeing him there, as everybody was supposed to be looking at Rex, but Chris said that he looked past Rex in the bar and glanced at her instead if I recall correctly.  |

The chemistry is there even in this photo. I think he had always had a "thing" for Julie ever since he saw her on Broadway and I'm convinced that if she hadn't been the lead female in TSOM he would never would have even given doing the movie a second thought and would have dismissed it from the get go.
Their body language in this photo and how they are leaning into one another just speaks volumes all by itself.

 I have a feeling this was taken at the church in Mondsee where the wedding scene was shot (I have seen another photo in a similar place with Robert Wise sharing a laugh with Julie in her wedding dress). |
